Alex Prager
Alex Prager is a self taught photographer who takes her cues from pulp fiction, the cinematic conventions of movie directors like Alfred Hitchcock as well as fashion. She has had work in Wallpaper Magazine. He work is also in the Museum of Modern Art, North Carolina Museum of Art and Whitney Museum of American Art. The picture I chose is entitled June. It is a woman dressed in 70's fashion. I was inspired by the dramatic look of the woman in this particular picture. You cannot read her face creating a mystery which i tried to have my sister emulate. I went on the Dighton Bridge with my sister in a dress trying to get her in the pose as accurate as possible. But as you can see my sister was very uncooperative probably because I put her on a bridge, in a dress, when it was 16 degrees. The weather and time of day was working against me but i tried to copy the dramatic look with the shadows falling across her face as well as on the ground. To get the depth I also moved back and to the right to match the lines from the road, sidewalk, and bridge. I added a little more depth though with the angle of the trees in the background as well. In her picture the light is falling directly on her face from the sun but with the weather I chose the sunniest day I had within the time frame creating a slight difference. To copy her asymmetrical photograph I had my sister stand slightly to the right of the picture as well. I loved her photo was proud to attempt to recreate it.
